The Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding is carried out in the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

Pre-operative investigations can be carried out at your home town. We require the following investigations:

• Blood test, including blood group
• Chest x-ray
• Upper GI barium series (optional)
• ECG
• Ultrasound scan of the liver (optional)

Thrombosis prophylaxis is started on the morning of admission. EnoxaparinŽ, 50 mg by subcutaneous injection, once daily. These injections are to be continued until mobility is fully regained.

It is advisable to wear elastic stockings (TEDŽ) until mobility is fully regained.

As a rule the hospital stay is short, usually one overnight stay is necessary. Prior to discharge a limited GI series (x-ray) is done to establish the correct position of the band and a baseline measurement of the pouch size. Patients are provided with dietary guidelines and related resources.
